The best lake in Utah to catch big Cuthroat would have to be Strawberry Reservoir. The smalles cuts I typically see come out of there are easily 14 inches, and some of them are 5lbs or more. There are also Rainbows and Kokanee Salmon, Although I rarely see them. As far as cuts near the Uintas, no where really comes to mind. Most of those little lakes off the Mirror Lake Highway are "put in, take out" lakes that are heavily stocked with Rainbows, while the brookies spawn naturally. I believe cuts are present in some of the lakes you can hike into however.

I can't believe I have never fished, or hunted Utah, I have fished every state surrounding Utah. From your pics, I definitely need to put it in my summer travel plans. I have found a great web site for locating great hunting and fishing, in areas I am unfamiliar with. A friend of mine suggested www.huntfishguide.com I t would be fantastic to get into some large brook trout, as well as rainbows and browns. Is there any good cutthroat trout near Mirror Lake?

Howdy!

I was up fishing Scofield this morning as well as the lower fish creek, what a beautiful morning to be up there. I'd love to go fishing with you sometime, I was thinking on the drive home how much fun it would be to have a blog, like yours and share my fishing adventures... Nice by the way... How can I get in on the gill netting help? I'd love to be a part of that! Do you live in Utah county? When you going out again?

Looks like you guys had a hayday! I caught a nice spawner years back similar to your fathers. Looked almost identical. I usually fish from shore and use a spinning rod with a nymph and a bubble. Its completely hit and miss. Some days Its every few casts and others I wonder if anything is in there. I do catch and release but most people dont. Usually I stick to the same type of nymph as its consistant. What setup do you use and types of dry or nyph type, size etc. Also are you setup to fish ontop or bottom with sinking line. I sometimes see guys out in floattubes just knocking them dead. I have a float tube but havent ever used it. If you get this msg throw me an email. Thanks. Matt

I love mirror lake. I haven't been there in ages. When I was growing up, we spent a considerable amount of time there every summer. I remember the fish being smaller though...

The bass fishing is more consistent all year long, The trout are in deeper cooler water, and there are lots of boaters in the deeper middle section. I would recommend fishing early (6am-11pm) or later (6pm-dark) It's one of the lower elevation lakes in Utah so it gets pretty hot and the fishing slows down mid day.
